When I bought the nowl it was tarnished about 90%, I Cleaned and could not find any markings, I set a magnet on it to see if it would stay in place, which it didn't.
Has 3 small legs on bottom, the legs each have a hole at the tip of the foot. It has a beautiful trim at top,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful bowl. Such large punch bowls are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The design of the bowl suggest that it was made in the early part of the 1900s where this type of legs, decoration and shape was popular. As it is quite a large item and does not have any marks I tend to believe that it is silverplated. Larger items like this would almost always have a silver mark on them if they are made of silver. However it depends on what country it was made in as to where the silvermarks are placed. If it is european the silvermarks may be on the side, just below the top rim of the bowl instead of underneath. But I guess you would have found the silvermarks when you cleaned the bowl.
You haven't written the size of the bowl but I assume it is around 20-25 cm tall.
Silverplated items are popular too but not quite as valuable as items made of silver or sterlingsilver. Your punch bowl appears to be in good condition without major signs of wear and use which is important for potential buyers both collectors and dealers.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online silver objects auction, where I believe the silverplated punch bowl has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the lovely bowl. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
Thank you for the measurements - I believe the it is slightly smaller than I expected which means the estimate will be in the lower end of the scale of the 300-500 us$. And also I just noticed the sticker saying "Made in India" - this could indicate that it was made within the past 20-30 years and not as old as assumed. I am sorry I did not notice this sticker at first, however this and the size decreases the value of the lovely punch bowl and I have adjusted accordingly.
Please feel free to contact me again with any further questions concerning this item.
Thank you
So sorry I didnot put the measurements, here they are:
10 1/2 inches wide at the top of bowl and 6 1/2 tall from top to surface setting on. thanks so much.
