Hi Jean,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Small trunks like these were immensely popular during the late 18th and early 19th Century and were ubiquitous in both the US, England and Europe. The use of mahogany suggests this was made in England or Europe, where mahogany - though costly and not native grown - was available in great supply.
The market for these is somewhat limited these days - most sold at auction bring between $300-500.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Regency or Regence brass bound leather covered mahogany trunk
English or European, early 19th Century (circa 1800-1850)
Of rectangular form, the exterior with brown leather, brass edges and brass tack trim opening to an undivided interior, the bottom with green felt.
10 inches high, 26-1/4 inches long, 14-1/2 inches deep
CONDITION: This chest appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$300-500*
