The walking cane was given to my grandfather in the early to mid 70's by his father. His father received it from another family member. I was told it came from Africa but not sure how true that is. Would love to know more about this. Thank you

Hi Gregory,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
If this is from Africa, it was made for the export (tourist) market as it features elements common in both Western and African canes, walking sticks and staffs.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage African export or African style carved hardwood walking stick
20th Century
Carved allover with seated figure at the top issuing a curved handle, above two lions over a cross-hatch incised section, the body of the cane of barley-twist design, over a cross-hatch incised section. Apparently unmarked.
36 inches long
CONDITION: appears to be in generally good condition with a nice warm patina allover.
PROVENANCE: inherited
$300-500*
