Wax doll. 25" Excellent condition. Eyes open and close. Original clothing. The outer garment is silk. The undergarments are finally hand made lace and linen. The doll comes in a wooden box made by my great grandfather.
This doll was given to my great aunt from her great aunt prior to turn of the century. The doll may have found its way from Ely, England but was given to my aunt in Oradell, NJ
This is a fairly large, 25" tall, antique, 3rd quarter 19th century, about 1880s, wax poured over composition doll with sleeper eyes in original period costume with a later custom made folk art box with antique US Flag lined interior, all in excellent condition. Without a maker mark or label, where this was made cannot be definitively stated. The majority of dolls of this type were produced in France and Germany, with some manufacturers in England at that time. The antique and collectible doll market is currently slumped.
