Hi Julie,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Sometimes rosewood has that kind of graining though this has a fairly light appearance and could be faded, or just the photos; rosewood was used quite frequently in the late 19th century. I can't tell from the photos if there is faux-graining but that was also a common decorative practice at the time.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A late Empire style (faux-grained?) rosewood chest of drawers
American or English, late 19th/early 20th Century
The rectangular top with flat edge over a waterfall case fitted at the top with two outset short drawers over two recessed long drawers, shaped stiles and all raised on shaped feet. Pulls later.
34 inches high by 42 inches wide by 20 1/2 inches deep
CONDITION: pulls replaced
$600-900*
