A bedframe looks hand carved
Twin
Hi Jack,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is a beautiful mahogany carved poster/tester headboard and footboard that would have made a dramatic statement in any bedroom but one that would be right at home in a stately Southern plantation where the rods connecting the tops could have been hung with a gauze-type fabric or netting for protection against insects on hot summer nights. It would have been fitted with a deep box spring and mattress, probably one that caused the surface of the bed to be comparatively high off the floor, possibly even requiring small steps to get into.
The bold carvings between the posts are indicative of the Rococo revival style, which flourished in the late 19th century, following the Victorian era. You note this is hand-carved, and it may well be that, though I suspect - based on what I can tell of the joints and other construction techniques - that this was made in the first half of the 20th Century, so more correctly called "vintage" rather than "antique".
Mearto bases its values on the secondary auction market. At the moment, used beds of any age and size are not selling for much money but twin beds are notoriously difficult to sell because even single/unpartnered people prefer having more room in a bed than a twin bed will afford. Beds of this vintage are often smaller than modern sizes and though you don't provide measurements, I suspect this is narrower than a modern twin mattress.
The lack of rails will further deter potential buyers.
You could put some money into retrofitting this bed with new rails on the bottom and top and adding "extenders" so that it fits a modern twin mattress and box spring but even so, based on the current prices for single twin beds, this would be unlikely to bring more than $250 at auction. In it's current "as-is" condition, I would be surprised if the headboard and footboard sold for more than $100.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.

No I don't have the side rails. Just what is shown. The lady I got it from was going to turn it into a flower planter for her yard.
