I believe this silk carpet is in excellent condition. It has some kind of signature along the short side edging. It has a lead button sewn and hanging from the corner- some kind of mark?

Hi Zarema,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The calligraphic writing in the cartouche translates to "Hereke" so while it doesn't identify a maker or shop tradition, it does confirm that this is a Hereke carpet.
Hereke silk rugs are among the finest and most technically accomplished carpets ever produced in the Ottoman and Turkish weaving tradition. Production began in 1843 under Abdulmejid I, who established imperial workshops in Hereke to furnish palaces such as Dolmabahce Palace. These rugs were originally woven exclusively for the Ottoman court, not for export and they utilized the finest silk (sometimes silk pile on silk foundation; occasionally gold/silver-wrapped threads).
Hereke carpets exhibit an extremely high knot density — often 1,000+ knots per square inch in the best examples tied using the Turkish (Ghiordes) double knot technique.
Colors tend to be luminous and detailed, with common motifs including floral sprays, scrolling vines, medallions and prayer niches and Ottoman court designs.
This is a 20th Century example and appears to be in fine condition; related ones of comparable age, size and design that have sold at auction recently have brought prices ranging from $800-1,200. It's worth noting that most rugs sold through rug galleries or by rug dealers are typically listed at a much higher retail price; in the case of this rug, probably $3,000 at least.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
