Hexagonal porcelain ginger jar attached to wooden base. 15.5" tall including wooden base and lid. 9.5" wide. Jar was previously broken and repaired. It is hand painted with Chinese images and writing.
It was purchased as a lamp which was broken during a move. The lamp configuration was removed and the jar was repaired. Now we have downsized and would like to sell it.
Hello Kelly,
Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. I apologize for the delay in your appraisal and thank you for your patience. The item presented appears to be a Chinese porcelain ginger jar, measuring 15.5" in height. Due to the jar being attached to the base, it may be difficult to attribute an accurate date or maker, as those indications are typically found to the underside. However, based on the condition of the jar in the provided photos, it appears to date to the early to mid 20th century. The scenes and text featured on the jar related to a new year and various activities during the seasons.
The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of comparable ginger jars, dating to the early to mid 20th century, with minor to moderate repairs. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
