Authentic Point de Loiselles French Woven Tapestry
26 September 2021
Description

French wall tapestry purchased by my mother in 1982 in France, and she left it to me. It is an authentic “Flandres D’Halluin” (I don’t know if I wrote that correctly) tapestry depicting a Midieval Garden scene. It was purchased in France in the actual town it was made in. It has a certificate of authenticity on the back and was hand sewn. I’m really interested to know what it’s worth because I would love to sell it as it doesn’t really match my house style.

Provenance

Bought in 1982 (approx) by my mother in Point de Loiselles, France. It’s a “D’Halluin” tapestry and it has a brass rod to hang it.

Hi and thank you so much for the feedback! The dimensions are: 60” L by 27”W. Wow….just $300-500? I think my mom paid something like $8,000 for this… but oh well…. 🤷‍♀️

I forgot to mention it’s in pristine condition. No rips, tears or fading. I have kept it in a dark storage vessel where it lays flat and is out of heat and sunlight. Thanks again!

This ended up being larger than I thought it was so I've upped the value a little bit. These tapestries come to auction occasionally and all sell for less than $1,000 but this is nice so has a better chance of bringing towards the top of that range. Sadly, the market for reproduction tapestries is just not what it used to be, and they bring a fraction of what they were once sold new as, particularly from a retail gallery.

Thank you so much! I totally understand about the reproduction market. Thanks so much for your help!
