Boukhara rug approximately 5.66 ft x 7.9 ft excluding tassels. Don’t know a lot about it. It has been in our loft for 32 years. Had it in our previous house but stopped using it as we had cats and they started playing with the tassels. It is a pale blue in colour. Don’t know what it is made of but very soft to touch.

Hi Sharon
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The repeating, oval or diamond-shaped motifs (called "guls") arranged in rows are a hallmark of Bokhara rugs, which are traditionally made by Turkmen tribes from Central Asia, particularly in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and northern Afghanistan.
Despite the label, this rug was NOT made in the 19th Century but rather in the mid 20th Century, after a 19th Century pattern. It is made of silk, denoting a very find quality and would have been costly to acquire originally.
Most rug dealers - whether in a brick-and-mortar shop or bazaar booth - will ask quite high sums for rugs they are selling, particularly ones of this size and material that are universally useful as well as highly durable. However, when the same rugs are sold at auction, they don't bring quite as much money - in this case, it's worth between $2,000 and $3,000.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Turkish Bokkara hand-knotted silk carpet
made in Turkey, circa mid 20th Century
Centering a cream ground with four rows of 11 medallions or guls, within a brick-red border and cream selvedges (fringe trim).
