Bronze Weighs 20 lbs
42" long x 13"
Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I've seen other versions from this casting selling online but in none of them can I find mention of the maker, though it might have been made by JL Mott Iron Works (NY), Bradley & Hubbard (CT) or Caldwell & Co (NY). It's likely to have been made in the first half of the 20th Century as part of the Colonial Revival period.
Other examples offered online - also in bronze - are priced in the $50-100 range and ones I've found at auction bring a bit less than that, typically not more than $40-60. Currently, the melt-weight of bronze is $3.30/pound, placing its melt value at $66.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Colonial Revival style cast bronze wingspread eagle wall plaque
unattributed American maker, first half 20th Century
Hollow-cast in two parts, apparently unsigned
13 inches high by 42 inches long (assembled)
CONDITION: with some wear from use
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 40-60*
