The piece unscrews into four separate parts, in the lower two parts are the containers for salt and pepper. Material: ivory Size : 22cm heigh, 3cm wide, and 3cm deep Age mid 19 century Condition: salt container has a small crack, in the third level one slither in one of the windows is missing and there is a slight crack in the second level. Otherwise all the screw sections work well and it is in overall very good condition

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a turned and carved bone tubular container used as a cricket cage, possibly mid 19th century. The two containers might have been used to take care of the insect, salt and pepper would not make sense. Similar cricket cages 蟋蟀罐 were sold, but this rather long version is rare. To be able to sell it you would have to get a CITES for the ivory. The estimate is based on similar sold at auction. Prices in the trade are usually higher and can vary.
