This is a Chinese qinghua (‘blue pattern’) porcelain plate. It was likely to have been produced during the late Ming (the 1600s) or Qing dynasty (1644-1912). The imperfect quality of the white clay could indicate that it may be Swatow ware, a form of porcelain produced for export during the Ming dynasty.

The artist’s technique does not appear to be particularly refined, but free and playful. The absence of any marking on the obverse side indicates as well that it was produced for a lower end market. The dark rim on the edge of the plate is unusual. The intricate repair job indicates that it was valued by its previous owner and may not be a reproduction but an original valuable piece. However, damage generally lowers the price of an item like this.

Based on previous sales of similar pieces, this item has a Fair Market Value of $50 to $100. I am checking the “conditional” box below however since it appears to be an unusual piece in its style and this could indicate a higher value.
