engraving signed by James Faed with the inscription : engraved by James Faed made from the picture painted from life by command of her majesty, 1844 Including frame size 28 3/4 × 38 3/4. Engraving 18 3/4 × 29 3/4. Hard to take proper picture with glass on front. Leery if removing from frame as it too appears to be quite old has embossed stamp with printsellers association XBE in lower left hand side. Signature/inscription very faint haven't been able to take clear picture through glass
Father
This is an antique engraving of an image of The Duke of Wellington with Sir Robert Peele which was created by the printer, James Faed (1821 - 1911). Faed was a well-known engraver and he did engraved reproductions of paintings so as to disseminate images to the masses. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
Will try. Very faint / faded writing in what looks to be pencil
Printsellers mark on lower left side uploaded and extremely faint writing not very visible with camera and glass over picture. Can read the inscription with bright light.... Picture of inscription can be read, somewhat, if you expand picture uploaded....
Thank you for the images. The photos do not expand nor zoom here and the inscription is not visible in the photo images.
I uploaded the part of the inscription. I could remove the engraving from the frame for a better picture but the frame looks to be quite old if not original to the print. Would I devalue the engraving by removing from frame? It is held in by small square headed nails...
Can you appraise with the assumption that the inscription in pencil is correct as I can discern and the printsellers associationembossedmark with XBE in the middle. There is a partial frame makers label on the back and engraving held in place by small nails....
Please add images of the inscription mentioned and any small print at the lower left and right margins.
