Dear David,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please upload a close-up image of the signature on the back of your work?
Thanks,
Karine
Dear David,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.
After a close examination of your painting, here is what I can say regarding this particular work.
Your item appears to be an oil painting that is more likely to be from the end of the 19th century, and the date '1891' is here more plausible. As kindly mentioned in your previous message, it is a small work which measures 12"(h) x 9"(w), and the style is a naif portrait of a couple on horseback in a forest setting. The marks on the reverse correspond to the name of the supplier and stretcher used at the time by the artist.
Therefore, the estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of similar American paintings without artist attribution, dating from the end of the 19th century. The current condition (based on photographs provided) has been taken into consideration when determining the estimate.
Don't hesitate to contact me should you have any further queries. I will be always happy to help.
Best regards,
Karine
Their is not a signature It is a faint print. I was able to make out a few letters Above the letters it appears to be a 1891 0r 1811 date
