I believe this is an original Fredrik Kayser Modell 711 Lounge Chair. I want to find out if that's what it is, or something else. I wrote to LK Hjelle (the former and current manufacturer) asking about its authenticity. They responded that "this is an original 711 chair." Its frame is in good condition. Its upholstery is in poor condition. It is made of wood, fabric and metal.

Hi Adam,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
If the company has verified this to be an original chair, that's good enough for me to assume it's right.
Fredrik A. Kayser (1924–1968) was an important figure in mid-century Scandinavian design, particularly within Norway’s modern movement. Although sometimes less widely known than Danish designers like Hans J. Wegner, Kayser’s work is highly regarded for its elegance, craftsmanship, and refined proportions. He was not a manufacturer himself but a designer; his furniture was produced by established Norwegian firms Vatne Møbler and LK Hjelle, which was founded in 1940 in Sykkylven, Norway now in its 3rd generation.
The 711 Lounge chair - sometimes just called the "Kayser Chair" - was unusual in that the backrest appears to hover rather than being integrated into a solid frame. This creates a sense of lightness and separation between the seat and back that was considered innovative at the time. He also made the construction visually legible, with every joint and support having a clear purpose. Critically, the chair was celebrated for achieving a great balance between a light appearance and solid construction.
Most 711 Lounge Chairs that come to auction these days sell for between $500 and $1,000. Though the upholstery may be in "poor" condition, it looks like the original upholstery, which collectors appreciate.
