Hi Kimberly,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Tambour cabinets is a type of furniture characterized by the unique sliding tambour door, which is made from narrow strips of wood or other materials that are mounted on a flexible fabric or backing. This door system allows the cabinet to be opened and closed by sliding the strips sideways, rather than swinging open like a traditional hinged door. Tambour cabinets are especially appreciated for their sleek and modern appearance, as well as their practical design that helps conserve space.
The tambour cabinet first appeared in the 19th century, particularly in French and British furniture-making traditions. They regained popularity again during the mid Twentieth Century modern era, as the style emphasized clean lines, minimalist design, and efficient use of space. Designers sought ways to combine functionality with style, and the tambour mechanism provided a perfect solution for these design goals.
Comparable examples that have sold at auction recently have brought prices ranging from $300-600
