"Gros" hand painted Limoges plate
This plate has been in my family for approx 5 generations that I know of. It is signed Gros not Gross. It is a wall hanging. Very delicate and beautifully painted, even her fingers are detailed. I have been unable to determine age and if in fact it is a Antoin Gros painting.

Dear Bobbi – Greetings and thank you for your submission to Mearto of your family’s hand painted porcelain plate. This piece was manufactured for L Straus & Sons (LS&S), in Limoges between 1890 and 1920.
The decoration is hand-painted (as opposed to being transfer printed) and if this is larger than 10”d, we can call it a “charger” rather than a plate. I believe you are referring to Antoine Gros (1771 – 1835), alas he was long gone when this piece was painted. There most certainly was a porcelain painter with the same last name and other examples by Gros which have come to market are signed, “F. Gros” and this is likely the artist who painted your piece. Examples of Gros’s work that are seen at auction include genre scenes like yours, fruit and flowers. I would expect yours to sell between $250 and $300, although $500USD has been achieved once at auction in 2014.
