Wood
My great Aunt who lived in Montego Bay, West Indie's
Hello Andrea,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, materials and the painting, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Made and Hand Painted Japanese Double Sided Wooden Comb, dating back to the period between 1930-1970. The piece was likely made of Japanese softwood. There is a central wooden stripe on the piece which divides it into two and therefore creating the double sided layout. This central stripe is the only hand painted and decorated part of the comb. In this decoration we can easily see a characteristic representation of the mount Fuji. This Mount Fuji theme is one of the most heavily use themes in Japanese art. The central stripe is lacquered and painted with a white base. At the top of the decoration we can see a Japanese seal as well as writings describing the Mount Fuji. The piece is in good condition with small signes of age.
Entirely hand made and painted.
Dimensions: Uknown.
Condition: The piece is in good condition with small signes of age.
Provenance: Inherited from the customer's Great Aunt who lived in Montego Bay, West Indie's.
30-50$.
