What does this mean?

Hi Connie,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Murano glass, renowned for its exquisite beauty and craftsmanship, originates from the Venetian island of Murano, Italy. Dating back to the 13th century, Murano glassmaking techniques have been passed down through generations, creating timeless pieces of art. Characterized by vibrant colors, intricate designs, and delicate forms, Murano glass captivates with its elegance and sophistication. Skilled artisans employ techniques like millefiori, filigree, and latticino to produce a wide array of glassware, including vases, chandeliers, and sculptures. Each piece is unique, reflecting the masterful skill and artistic vision of its creator. Murano glass continues to enchant collectors and admirers worldwide with its unparalleled beauty and craftsmanship.
The current art and auction market for Murano glass is complex; because many collectors paid top dollar for pieces when purchased directly from the studios or glass shops in Venice, there is often the expectation that these retain their high value. Unfortunately, because there is such a large volume on the market without corresponding demand, prices at auction (resale) are modest.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A vintage Murano hand-blown Bird of Paradise
made in Murano, Venice, Italy, probably mid 20th Century
The vibrantly colored bird with gold flecked crest and tail, on a clear five-point foot. With a foil Murano sticker to the side.
16-1/2 inches tall
CONDITION: This Murano bird appears to be in good condition with a sliver of clear glass chipped off of the bottom stand where the glass is clear.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
