Hi Shannon,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Howard Miller was an American businessman and clockmaker whose name became synonymous with high-quality timepieces, especially grandfather clocks, wall clocks, and mantel clocks. He founded the Howard Miller Clock Company in 1926 in Zeeland, Michigan. Originally named the Herman Miller Clock Company—a division of the now-famous Herman Miller furniture company—the clock division became independent under Howard Miller's leadership.
The Heirloom Certified Collection from Howard Miller refers to a special line of their high-end floor (tall case or 'grandfather') clocks that came with personalization options and an official certification designed to create lasting family keepsakes.
These timepieces were costly to purchase new - they would have retailed for about $7,000 for simple models to about $25,000 for all the special customizable features, including Saratoga Cherry on select hardwoods and veneers. crystal-cut V-grooved glass on the door, book-matched olive ash burl overlays in the corners, and plain glass on the upper door and sides; locking door, adjustable floor levelers; Westminster chime with chime silence option; German-made, chain-driven movement.
Sadly, tall-case (or 'grandfather' as they are affectionately known) clocks have been outdated furnishings and, as their complex movements can be costly to maintain, have fallen out of favor with collectors, excepting those who are mechanically inclined. Most Howard Miller clocks of this and comparable models sells at auction for fair-market (akin to wholesale) prices, in the range of $2,000-3,000, even if in pristine condition.
