Eleven jade slips are attached together with what appears to be silk thread. The writing on the slips is Ancient Language (Small Seal Script) and the words are hand carved. The piece is 12 inches in length and approximately nine inches in height. Nine of the slips are 1/4 inch thick, while the end pieces are slightly thicker. Two appraisers have stated the slips are made of jade. The language dates the piece to the Qin Dynasty 280 B.C.C through the Han Dynasty 254 A.D. The piece is framed in a shadowbox .

Dear Angela,
You have a decorative art object made of most likely engraved strips of serpentine framed in China as art of the total object. So I believe the strips of serpentine were not used in a different , older manner. These attractive artworks are sold throughout China in different forms and shapes and ment for export to western countries. The characters are archaic old script but are not from that time frame. Date wise second half 20th century.
