Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil paint on canvas with the measurements of 1,8 x 2,5 m. The painting depicts a battle scene between cavalry troops. This painting appears to be signed with the name James E Marshal and dated 1892. Sadly no further information regarding the biography of this artist is mentioned in reference books or similar databases.
Works by this artist were recently not offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 300 to 600 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hi Georg
Unfortunately I will only have access to the painting in 6 weeks when my parents return
The signature says James E Marshal, and the year 1892. I think he was a Dutch painter
Hope this helps, even a rough estimation will be useful
Thanks
JC
