I have 2 etchings with Aquatint from Le Prince, framed. They measure 9" x 7" in the frames. The first one is titled "Le Toucher", and the second is "L'Ouie"
See stamps on the back of the frame. Appears they were at one time in Paris. Purchased from an estate sale of an art collector here in the US
Dear Michael,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be two etchings with Aquatint on paper with the measurements of 9 x 7 inches. These are two prints from the suite with the title "The Five Senses" made by Jean-Baptiste LEPRINCE (1734-1781). The first print is titled "Le Toucher" (sense of touching) and the second "L'Ouie" (sense of hearing). These prints were made between 1774 and 1775.
Works by this artist were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 150 to 350 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
