Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a late 19th century english school landscape painting. It has everything a decorative landscape should offer, a dark forest contrasting to an open sky, a pond and flowing water, small cottages, a country lane which gives the painting depth and perspective, a group of people so that the viewer can relate to the scene. These paintings were made for home decor during the second half of the 19th century for upper middle class homes. If at all, if would bear a signature which would be a pseudonym of an artist working as a purely decorative painter. The estimate is based on similar paintings offered or sold at auction. The painting would benefit from having the yellowed varnish removed by an expert restorer.
