What does this mean?

Hi Scarlett,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

Verona stemware made in Murano occupies an interesting niche in twentieth-century Italian glass. The name "Verona" is somewhat confusing because it may refer to a pattern or trade name rather than a specific Murano furnace, and many pieces were exported to the United States through importers rather than sold under the actual factory name.

Murano has been the center of Venetian glassmaking since 1291, when the Venetian Republic moved the city's glass furnaces to the island to reduce the risk of fire and protect valuable trade secrets. Over the centuries, Murano artisans perfected techniques such as: Cristallo (exceptionally clear glass), Filigrana (glass threads), Sommerso (one color encased in another), Gold leaf (oro zecchino) and gold aventurine decoration, Lattimo (milk glass) and Millefiori and murrine techniques.

Most retailers use the term "Verona" to describe elegant mid-century and late twentieth-century hand-blown stemware featuring tall, graceful bowls, twisted or sculptural stems, rich jewel tones such as cobalt, ruby, emerald, or amber, gold bands or gold inclusions, and thin, lightweight bowls balanced on substantial stems.

Many examples were produced during the 1950s through the 1980s, when Murano factories exported large quantities of luxury tableware to North America.

These have the vintage silver and blue foil "Rooster" or "Gallo" authentication label often found on authentic Murano art glass from Italy, with the "AC" factory code indicating production by an unspecified Murano furnace.

It's nice that you have a uniformly numbered set, though six is a smaller number as many collectors prefer 8 or 12 place settings. It's quite unusual to have a shot glass, though I think that might also be what is known as a cordial glass.

While you might have found higher prices for similar sets offered for sale online, those are typically retail prices and when sold at auction, sets of this size typically usually sell for about $8 per piece, though the uniform number will warrant a small premium on that.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
