Painting measures 8.75 x 6 inches not including the frame. Looks to be painted on wood. Frame is dark wood with gold trim on the front. Frame is a little loose in the corners.
This was owned by my mother who came to the US from Germany. She had a postcard from her aunt stuck in the back of the frame. The postcard is a picture of an Ernst Kaiser painting. She brought paintings from Germany and this may be one of them.
Dear Sarah,
Thank you for your contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The item presented appears to be an oil painting on board, possibly from the end of the 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century. It is unsigned, and the dimensions are (sight) 6" h x 8.75" w. The work appears to be in good condition overall despite some visible signs of wear and tear on the frame.
The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and similar European landscape paintings without artist attribution, dating from the 1780s to the 1820s. The current condition (based on photographs provided) has been taken into consideration when determining the estimate.
