Thank you very much.

And just to confirm, b/c I believe this to be a painting and my husband thinks it’s a print with brush strokes, are you able to tell from the photos it is an actual painting? I don’t want to mislead anyone when I go to sell it and I genuinely believe it to be a painting.

Also, where did you find any info on the artist? I just keep getting info on the explorer Rene Cavalier La Salle and I’d like to have some info on the artist when selling if possible.

Thank you!!
Cindy

HI Cindy,
Thank you for your questions. I found another work by the artist at this link; there isn't much known about him (https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/19412513_portrait-24-x20-of-peasant-girl-by-rene-lasalle) but the style is after that done by Barbizon artists in the 19th Century.

This could be a canvas print, meaning a mechanized technique for applying paint to canvas. The photo of the back of this is too blurry for me to tell if that's the case. Can you take a clearer photo of the back - in good light - and add it to this appraisal inquiry?
If you look at the surface of the canvas, you should see variation in the brushstrokes that would suggest that this was not done in a mechanized manner.
If it IS a canvas print, it would have a significantly lower value - more likely $200-300 given the size.

Keep me posted!

Thank you very much! I have added additional photos of the item for your review.

Thanks again,

Thank you for the photos!
I'm sorry to say that the back of the canvas does not show any age, and I'm not seeing enough variety in the way the paint was applied to think this is anything other than a canvas print. I've updated the appraisal, both in terms of the description and value.
