What does this mean?

Hi Joyce,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

Kindel is known for its meticulous craftsmanship. Founded in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1901, the company built a reputation for producing finely handcrafted furniture using traditional techniques — hand-carving, hand-rubbed finishes, and dovetail joinery. This level of artistry helped preserve the heritage of American furniture making during a period when mass production was becoming the norm.

At a time when much of the furniture industry moved manufacturing overseas, Kindel maintained its commitment to American-made goods. This dedication to domestic craftsmanship has cultural significance and supports the legacy of American furniture production.

Kindel furniture has a small but dedicated following at auction; when the market for period (18th and early 19th Century) pieces was stronger, Kindel offered collectors more affordable options. Now, period pieces are on a price point level with that of Kindel; this pair of side cabinets would likely sell for $400-600. However, the provenance to the Society of Cincinnati doubles their value: $800-1,200 for the pair
