What does this mean?

Dear Hillary,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

This is a large oil painting of a group of fishermen in a Mediterranean setting. It measures 70" (h) x 47"(w). It is signed on the lower left, and it is also dated and inscribed on the reverse of the painting. The condition is excellent overall.

Unfortunately, after searching this artist, I am sorry to say that I was unable to find any similar artist's signature in our records. It seems to me that an obscure artist has executed the painting that you own.

Therefore, this is reflected in the estimate in red that appears above. The subject work’s size and composition were also taken into consideration when determining these figures.

Best regards,

Karine
