Hi Stan,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Despite the small size of this carpet, it is unlikely it was used as a prayer rug, not least because of its size and the composition of deer in a landscape, which was a more European style subject. It is likely this small mat was made for the export/tourist trade rather than for use in Turkey, where it was made. Despite its later date of manufacture, the quality of silk Hereke rugs is quite high and warrants a high secondary-market price.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage export style Hereke silk circular carpet
made in Turkey, 20th Century
Of circular form, the central cream/gray ground centering two deer in a landscape within a blue medial border with stylized decorative motifs, with in a rosette and cream selvedge border. Label on the back reads "CH-Hereke / 081x081 = 66 / silk on silk / price 8976 / No 1741."
