Saint Dominic , Saint Mary

Description

Any information given is not very accurate. I would like to get further research for this beautiful piece. We believe to be a late 14th century pre sketch. The reason why when seen by other specialist , there is hidden angels over the saints. it is just under 100 cm and 80cm. Oil on canvas. The painting was bought in region of Cremona, Italy by my cousin , lover of art and antiques. Documentation unfortunately was unavailable, the deal on on but with hope that later on he would get that on professionals hands to find further information and even maybe the history book behind it. Please do not hesitate to contact if any further info is required . I am looking forward to hearing from you. I have a collection to be reviewed more in detail rather than online.

What does this mean?

Dear Evis,

Thank you for sending the video and for your patience. My sincere apologies for the delay with the apprisal. Because of the Easter Holidays and the big volume of the movie this estimation is delayed. I ask politely for your understanding.

The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil paint on canvas with measurements of 100 x 80 cm. The painting depicts the scene of St. Mary giving St. Dominic the rosary. According to a Dominican tradition, in 1208 the rosary was given to St. Dominic in an apparition by the "Blessed Virgin Mary" in the church of Prouille. This Marian apparition received the title of "Our Lady of the Rosary". This scene was depicted in numerous paintings until the 20th century especially from the 16th to 18th century. This motif is depicted in this painting. We see St. Mary giving the rosary to St. Dominic. The style of the depiction, the style of the costumes, the style of the composition of the figures, and the style of the expression of hands and faces are mostly comparable to paintings of the second half of the 17th century probably Spanish School or Italian School. Sadly there is no connection in the style of the depiction, the costumes, and the composition which lead to the art of the 14th century.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 4.000 to 8.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

An artwork of such high potential value requires further authentication research. This estimate is provided on the condition of authenticity.

With kind regards,
Georg
