Based on the serial #, I think this Singer Sewing Machine was built in Wittenberge, Prussia (Germany) between 1904 and 1940. My wife has maintained it and it works fine. The wooden cover is in good shape. If you need more pictures, let me know.
Hi Rick,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Yes, this website (https://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/serial-numbers/singer-c-series-serial-numbers.html) confirms that your machine was built in Wittenberge, Prussia, (Germany) between 1904 and 1940.
So few people use sewing machines these days that the market is somewhat flooded by them. With considerably less demand than supply, prices remain modest with most models by Singer - the gold-standard in sewing machines - bringing less than $200. Ones that are not built into tables and retain their original domed cases are worth a little more: $300-400 (mostly because the table-mounted ones take up a lot of space).
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique ebonized and stenciled pedal-powered Singer sewing machine
serial number C1268745, made in Wittenberge, Prussia, probably circa 1920s.
The black painted iron machine with gilt stencil decoration mounted in an oak table , with iron base and treadle-form foot pedal.
CONDITION: Client reports this sewing machine to be in generally good condition.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
