Laquer and mother of pearl screens
Family antique from missionary relatives
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a mid 20th century pair of chinese lacquer wall panels, inlaid with carved mother of pearl and most likely soapstone / steatite. Lacquer panels, e.g. so called coromandel screens have a long tradition in chinese art. The smaller versions were used for home decor both in China and abroad. The panels in your possession show two young women standing or sitting in an imaginery garden setting. The estimate is based on similar items offered or sold at auction. There is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to it.
