Gouache on heavy paper, signed Picasso, and dated 11.3.67 lower right. The size is 10.5 x 14.5 inches. Guaranteed not to be a print or lithograph. The title is “The Prince.” The piece is in excellent condition, apart from normal aging. Not cataloged to my belief
This piece comes from the private collection of ex-British government official Leslie Duxbury. Mr. Duxbury was a documented friend of Herbert Tannebaum, Mannheim, Germany. Tannenbaum was a well know art dealer in Europe and was friends with Chagall, Picasso, and other artists. This piece was gifted to Leslie Duxbury’s son. Purchased by a collector from Duxbury’s son in 2010 and the present owner (me). Documents included: 1) Original Provenance document signed by the son of Leslie Duxbury that will detail the sale in 2010. The Provenance explains how Leslie Duxbury worked for the British government and travelled extensively throughout Europe; amassing a large collection of works by known and unknown artists. This is an original document with photo of the piece and how this piece was part of the Duxbury collection of Lancanshire, U.K. 2) Photo certificate of authenticity by well-respected pHD in Art History, Daniel Hersh, attributing the piece to Picasso. 3) Transfer of ownership from the previous owner to current owner.
Dear Brandon,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be gouache on paper with the measurements of 10.5 x 14.5 inches. The drawing depicts a person with an oriental dress and has the title "The Prince". This piece appears to be signed with the name "Picasso" and dated "11.3.67". The drawing differs in the style and the quality of the composition and the signature to ensured works of Pablo Picasso.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would for an authenticated drawing in this size and motif by Pablo Picasso would be between 15.000 to 30.000 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Because of the differences to ensured works and the high potential value this artwork requires further authentication research. This estimate is provided on the condition of authenticity.
With kind regards,
Georg
