What does this mean?

Hello, this item is a Turkish Hereke silk prayer rug, hand-knotted in Turkey and dating to the late 20th century, probably circa 1970s to 1980s. The rug has a classic prayer-niche composition with a deep blue central field, dense floral arabesque decoration, red and cream borders, fine silk fringe, and a woven signature cartouche in the border, all consistent with decorative Hereke silk production made for the collector and export market. Hereke silk rugs were among the most refined Turkish workshop textiles of the 20th century, especially when woven on silk foundations with high knot density, bright jewel-like colors, and detailed floral designs. The reported 400 to 450 knot count, the silk construction, the small format, and the documented purchase in Saudi Arabia in 1984 support its identification as a good quality vintage Hereke silk rug rather than a modern machine-made decorative mat.

The rug appears to be in excellent preserved condition from the photographs, with strong colors, even pile, clean fringe, no visible losses, staining, holes, or floor wear, which is consistent with the history of wall display rather than floor use. Its value is supported by condition, silk construction, signature, and decorative appeal, although the current secondary market for Hereke silk rugs is more selective than the high retail market of the 1980s. Similar examples can sell modestly at auction, while stronger signed and finely woven examples achieve higher prices through specialist rug dealers. The fair market value is $1,500 - $3,000 USD.
