Hi Christina,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
American of Martinsville was founded in 1906 in Martinsville, VA, by tobacco entrepreneurs Ancil Witten and Charles Keesee. They began with bedroom furniture and expanded to dining pieces in the 1920s. By the 1950s, the company rebranded to American of Martinsville and embraced mid‑century styles—Hollywood Regency, chinoiserie, and Danish Modern influences—built with quality solid woods and craftsmanship.
Individual chairs by Martinsville usually sell for less than $50 each, at auction.
