This is an original watercolor painting under glass framed and matted. It is dated and signed by the artist but it appears the first initial is hidden by the mat. What is visible reads M. CLARK 1885. The frame is wood but heavily embellished--probably with plaster. The frame is 34 inches by 28 inches and the painting is approx 18 x 12 inches.
This painting was purchased in 1908 or 1909 when my Great Grandparents made an extended visit to Los Angeles, CA. They were well off. I do not know whether it was purchased from the artist, but it has remained in the family in the same frame ever since.
This is an antique, late 19th century, Victorian era, framed original watercolor painting of outbuildings along the water's edge. It is signed and dated ?.M. Clark 1885 and the frame is gold painted molded gesso plaster over wood. Knowing the first initial of the first name in the signature will be most helpful in determining if this is a listed artist with past auction sale history. There are over 500 listed artists with the last name Clark. If you are able to access to see that first initial, a further assessment can be weighed in for this. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
