My family acquired this painting about 45 years ago. The gentleman which we got it from had served in WWII. He said that it bought it off the streets in Czechoslovakia. That is all we ever knew about the painting.

Dear Tina,
Thank you for your request. The presented object is a painting made in oil paint on canvas with unknown measuremnts. It depicts a brown bear in a snowy mountainside landscape. The painting is signed in the right corner with a signature which could be interpreted in two ways. Fisrt it could be read as "Grei" or as "G. Rei". The second interpretation is more praobaly because of the capital letter of the R. Sadly no further information regarding to the biography of this artist are mentioned in reference books or similar databases. This painting was made in the 1920s or 1930s.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 150 to 400 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
