We found this old blue boy oil painting when my mom died. She got it from her mother long ago with a book about famous paintings of 1939
It’s really old. Oil panted. Old frame. Looks like it has some kind of signature in corner.
Dear Keith,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a lithograph in colors on cardboard with unknown measurements. This print was made after the famous painting with the title "Blue Boy" by the British artist Thomas Gainsborough (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blue_Boy) around 1770. This reproduction was made in the middle of the 20th century.
This piece is in medium condition and there is a loss of color because of light damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 20 to 40 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
I took a picture shown with the cardboard backing on and the last picture is without it on
with it being on a non cardboard surface does the value change???
Dear Keith,
Thank you for the additional information. Sadly this does not change the estimate. Such color lithographs are quite often produced and still on the market.
With kind regards,
Georg
It’s not on cardboard. Cardboard was put behind it. It’s a thin kind of old paper
