This is a 20th century original vintage watercolor painting by the American artist Edith Lucile Howard (1885 - 1960). She was known for landscape and genre painting as well as illustration. This work in watercolor features trees in autumn colors in the immediate foreground with the illusion of an imposing and large building beyond the tree line. Edith Howard was a member of the "Philadelphia Ten" which was a group of ten women who regularly exhibited together from 1917 - 1945. She studied at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women under Elliott Daingerfield and Henry B. Snell. Although primarily based in the Philadelphia/Delaware and New York/New Jersey areas she did travel and exhibit extensively and was an active member of numerous art associations. Despite these accomplishments, her works are not as highlhy sought after at auction as one would presume. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
