I inherited this painting. I have looked online and have not seen this same painting anywhere. On the back of the painting is stamped "the copyright of this picture is the property of the artist and is strictly reserved." The painting is signed on bottom right: JJ Enwright. The painting is 16x20 on canvas and framed. On the back there is writing done in pencil that is hard to read but looks like it says Cape Ann Harbor
I inherited from my grandmother.
Dear Daniel - Your grandmother has excellent taste. This painting is by Jon J. Enwright (1911-2001, American). His work is offered at auction several times a year and is usually sold in the range of $400USD to $1000USD for a 20" x 24" canvas. The more expensive pieces represent known harbors, in fact Gloucester, MA is a fairly frequent subject. What makes your example a tad more unusual is the inclusion of the figure in the foreground and the smaller size. If this piece were to come to auction, I'd expect to see it sell between $500USD and $700USD.
If you have any follow-up questions, let me know and thank you for submitting to Mearto.
Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
