The painting is approximately 24" x 18" on quality paper.
This is another painting that has been in my mother's family since at least the 1920's. It is signed by M.B. Curtis (the actor??) and may have been painted in 1890 according to the signature.
Dear Gary,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a watercolor drawing on paper with the measurements of 18 x 24 inches. The drawing depicts a harbor scene with a wooden storage building and masts of a ship in the background. The drawing is signed with the name M. B. Curtis and dated 18(90) or less probable 19(90). For an exact dating, a closer look at the paper quality is needed. Sadly no further information regarding the biography of this artist is mentioned in reference books or similar databases. There is one artist mention with the name M. Birchard Curtis but sadly without image example.
Works by this artist were not recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 100 to 200 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
