Oil painting framed, 29" height, 38" wide Artist name, cannot make it out (DLE Meyn) Czech Republic painter
unknown
Dear Irie,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil or acrylic paint on canvas with the measurements of 29 x 38 inches. The painting depicts a folk ceremony with many women sitting in traditional costumes on a meadow. This painting was probably made in Hungary in the first half of the 20th century. The signature is difficult to read and with all possible readings, no artist is mentioned in auction result databases and similar reference books.
Works by this artist were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 100 to 250 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Dear Irie,
Thank you for your email. I compared your paintings with works of Joza UPRKA (1861-1941). Indeed this piece is very similar in motif and style but it has fundamental differences in the quality of the painting itself and the composition. This is a composition after a painting by Joza Uprka.
With kind regards,
Georg
Just as an FYI- this is from this painter Joža Uprka and I need a RE-Appraisal! You were NO help at all.. please Re-Appraise!
