Some type of old thin canvas material. Lots of damage around edges, oil I think? I think the canvas is approximately 3ft x 5ft. Original painting was Pierre Augustus Cot

Hello Katherine,
Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. I apologize for the delay in your appraisal and thank you for your patience. The item presented appears to be copy oil painting on canvas after an 1880 oil painting by French artist Pierre-Auguste Cot (1837 – 1883) titled "The Storm." The canvas presented appears to date to the mid-20th century, based on the conditions. However, further in-person examination may determine a more accurate age. The depiction is thought to be based on the romance of Daphnis and Chloe. You can find more information in the MET's link to the original work below.

The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of this image as a copy painting dating to the 20th century and other comparable copy paintings after Pierre-Auguste Cot that are not attributed to specific artists and workshops. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report and size. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
Thank you for your time! I really love this painting and I do think I will keep it. It captivated my attention at a yard sale about 12 years ago and I bought the piece for only $5. I hope to find a frame though to help preserve it better for a long time.
