This is an antique, likely mid 19th century or possibly earlier, 1800 - 1850s, unsigned oil on board painting that employs the painterly method of 'chiaroscuro' which is the depiction of light and dark. Painters would show their talent at rendering a realist image using candlelight in the evening. This work is done in the manner of Belgian 19th century painer Petrus van Schendel (1806 - 1870) who was known for night market genre paintings light studies.
